What is Veterinary Science?
If you are an animal lover and are fascinated by majestic creatures present on mother earth, veterinary science allows one to create a profession in the field. Veterinary Science deals with the treatment, wellbeing of all animals on the planet. Just similar to medical degrees, there are veterinary doctors and professionals who see to the treatment of animals. The study of veterinary science ranges from preventive care to psychological analysis and complex surgical problems. One has to be absolutely passionate and dedicated about ensuring the wellbeing of animals. It’s not just dogs or cats veterinary doctors see to, they can range from mammals to the big cats in the jungle.
Candidates seeking admission for this course, need to sit for entrance exams, such as NEET, KEAM, PUCET, IPUCET, etc.
Also before sitting for the entrance, candidates need to meet certain eligibility prescribed by the governing authority. This criteria generally varies college-wise, but the basic norm for all the candidates, willing to pursue this course is scoring at least 50% aggregate marks in their 10+2 exams. Also, candidates should be 17 years of age at the time of admission.
Veterinary Science Eligibility Criteria
Before students can apply for admission, students need to meet the common eligibility criteria in order to pursue a course in Veterinary Science which are as follows:
BVSc: To pursue a course in Bachelor of Veterinary Science, the student should have passed class 12 with PCB subjects from a recognised board and should have secured a minimum of 55% in their boards. The BVSc course is a five-year course.
MVSc: To pursue a course in Master of Veterinary Science, the candidate needs to have completed their BVSc from a recognised university and should have secured a minimum of 50% in their graduation.
Veterinary Science Admission Process
The admission process for Veterinary Science is as follows:
Chose University/College: The candidate’s first job is to search for colleges or universities which are offering the course and programme you are looking for. Be it BVSc/MVSc/PGVSc, identify the college which offers a course in veterinary science.
Apply for Course: Once you have identified the university, the candidate can proceed to apply for admission in the university. The candidate has to fill up the details as required and pay the application fee. The application forms are available for a limited period of time so the candidate is advised to know the details way in advance.
Appear for an Entrance Exam: For admission in Veterinary Science, universities and colleges generally conduct entrance exams to test the abilities of students. Be it for any programme, the candidate will have to qualify the entrance exam in order to get admission in Veterinary Science courses. Generally, candidates appear for NEET.
Results: Candidates who qualify, make the merit list and acquire the desired rank and percentage, are eligible for admission.
Counselling: The candidate will have to appear for the counselling session conducted at the university to book their seat, submit their documents and pay the fees to seal admission.
