Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery [BAMS]
BAMS, the short name for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery course, is an undergraduate degree program designed in such a way that it makes students familiar with the integrated concept of Modern Medical Science and Traditional Medicines, i.e. it is focussed on Ayurveda. The duration of this course is 5.5 years including Internships.
A Worldwide forum has been provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for promoting traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda. BAMS is one of the most popular courses in the field of medical science apart from the MBBS.
The areas of employment for the BAMS Graduates includes Ayurvedic Resort, Clinical Trials, Dispensaries, Government/Private Hospitals, Healthcare Community and Healthcare IT.
About BAMS
BAMS course focuses on the Ayurvedic treatment of the disease along with modern medicine.
Ayurveda traces its roots to the Vedic Times. It is totally based on the marvellous properties of the herbs and its medicines are well known for their contents of natural elements.
Ayurveda has gained a lot of prominence in India as it is treated as the alternative method for the treatment of the diseases.
There are many diseases which are not treated by only the western medicine. But, with the help of Ayurveda a number of diseases are cured without any side effects.
The minimum academic requirements for getting admission in BAMS is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects.
The admission in the courses of BAMS 2021 is based on the marks obtained by the candidates in the NEET examination.
However, there are some colleges present in India where the admission in the BAMS course occurs even without the NEET score card.
There are a lot of options available for a student after completion of their BAMS course. They can get jobs across several sectors.
The average salary of a BAMS graduate ranges from INR 20,000 to 80,000 per month in the government sector and INR 20,000 to 50,000 per month in the private sector.
BAMS Admission Process
1. National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the basis for the selection of the students in the BAMS Course.
2. In India, NEET is compulsory for admission into many medical courses including the BAMS Course.
3. The centralized counseling held after the NEET exam for the admission of the NEET qualified students in the various courses of the medical science according to their performance in the Entrance exam i.e. NEET.
4. Interviews are also done by various colleges for giving admission to the students in BAMS.
BAMS Eligibility
The minimum eligibility criteria for applying in the BAMS course are as follows:
1. Candidates need to have a minimum of 50%-60% in their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
2. The minimum required score in the 10+2 may vary according to the different institutions present in India.
3. Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subjects in the 12th board examinations.
4. The upper age limit for the candidates appearing for the NEET exam from the general category is 20 years. While, a relaxation of 4 years is given to the reserved categories.
